About

Rune Skelley is the joint pseudonym of two science-fiction writers. Jennifer and Kent are married and have been writing together for over ten years, completing five novels so far.

On Mondays and Wednesdays we post the amusing results of our writing prompts. Check them out, and make your own.

On Fridays we share our thoughts on collaboration and how to write with a partner. We’ve been doing this for a long time and are happy to share our knowledge. Friday is also when we post occasional updates on our writing projects.

The most common question other writers ask us about working with a coauthor is, “How does that work?” The short answer is, “Just great, thanks!” The longer answer gets into the nitty-gritty of our process, which is a shared thing at every stage of a project, and on every level.

From agreeing on what to work on next, to brainstorming broad strokes of plot and setting, down to divvying up the workload, it takes a different mindset to successfully operate in a collaborative mode. Writing fiction is traditionally seen as a solitary activity, but when a partnership works well it can offer many advantages. After all, if the pen is mightier than the sword, two pens are mightier yet!

Blog posts with a “J” icon are written by Jen, posts with a “K” are by Kent, and those with “&” are, as you might suppose, a collaboration credited to Rune.
